How does dehydration affect your health?

Be it weight loss or maintaining overall health and well being, nothing can beat water. Not just in the summer season, you need to stay hydrated in the winter season as well. If your body does not have as much water as it needs you are going to get dehydrated. Without enough water, you’ll not be able to function properly. Here are some side effects of dehydration:

  • Tiredness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dark urine
  • Dry skin
  • Constipation
  • Headache
  • Blurry vision
  • Dizziness and light-headedness
  • Low blood pressure
  • Sunken eyes and chip

Loss of water in your body can lead to these complications, dampening your sex life.

Dehydration can take a toll on your sex life, according to a gynae

Dr Sushma Tomar, Consultant Obstetrics & Gynecology, Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, Mumbai, says, “Dehydration unconsciously causes lots of changes in the body both in males and females, such as tiredness, irritation, depressed mood, decreased erectile function, and dryness in the vagina, which can also cause pain during sex.”

Dehydration can affect your urge to get cozy with your partner, may leave you feeling moody, fatigued, or too tired. In fact, it can also contribute to vaginal dryness, making sex painful. Dr Tomar adds, “Dehydration can be a major reason behind decreased libido which in turn, can also lead to poor sexual performance.” In short, dehydration is horrible for your sex life. So ladies, keep in your mind that staying hydrated is really vital for your sexual health.

What can you do about it?

Dr Tomar, “For decreased libido, there are many causes, but it takes time to understand the cause of decreased libido. Before hunting for other reasons, proper hydration is important for the couple.”

2. Include more fruits in your diet

Winter has some amazing fruit options and consuming fluid-filled fruits and vegetables such as orange, watermelon, pineapple, broccoli, and peaches is a good way to add more liquid to your daily diet.

3. Rustle up some delicious soups

Eating homemade soups, especially made with seasonal vegetables and herbs can improve your water intake.

4. Avoid alcohol

Limiting the consumption of alcohol can also help as it causes dehydration.

5. Keep sipping water

Thirst is a bad indicator of dehydration. The body shows signals of thirst only when one has reached a high level of dehydration in the body, hence it is imperative to keep sipping water throughout the day.

If you are not getting good results even after ample hydration, you should consult your doctor.
