Do you often feel like not having sex? The truth is that you’re not alone if you find your libido in a state of slumber. According to a study conducted in 2008, 1 in every 4 women report experiencing low sexual desire and a lack of arousal.

It could be social conditioning that makes you look at sex as something wrong, or a traumatic experience in the past, or a mental-health condition that could be causing it. However, sometimes, a low sex drive can also be attributed to hormonal imbalance.

Hence, if that’s the case with you, these herbs and veggies can help you boost your sex drive:

1. Ginseng
You’ve probably seen a zillion billboards with ads about ginseng products promising to solve “purushon ki sambhog samasya”. But you’ll be pleased to know that it can do wonders for us ‘mahilaas’ as well. According to a study conducted in 2019, consuming ginseng naturally improves sexual function in both males and females by boosting sexual arousal and alertness.

2. Fenugreek
The findings of a study published in the journal Phytotherapy Research suggested that fenugreek seeds had a positive effect in enhancing the sexual function in menstruating women with self-reported low sexual function. It is attributed to the presence of saponins in fenugreek seeds which boost estradiol (a type of estrogen). This, in turn, increases lubrication and blood flow in the vagina, increasing a woman’s probability and capacity to experience an orgasm and consequentially, even her sexual vitality, sexual desire, and arousal.

3. Asparagus
If it’s not the lack of attachment with your partner or some mental-health issue stopping you from enjoying sex, then your low sex drive can be attributed to a hormonal imbalance in your body. Here’s introducing asparagus which is a powerhouse of vitamin-B6 and folate.

These nutrients are proven to increase the levels of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone in the body and decrease prolactin (another hormone that decreases libido in women). This helps in boosting a woman’s overall sexual health.

4. Saffron
Ladies, the smell of kesar is divine and so is its impact on your sex drive. A study published in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that women who consumed 30 mg of saffron every day for 4 weeks reported a boost in sexual arousal and desire. How about you give kesar milk a try?

Several studies including the one published in the journal Pharamacognosy have mentioned the aphrodisiacal properties of dates. These dry fruits are rich in amino acids, which are linked with increased sexual stamina and desire. In the winter, dates can be consumed with a cup of hot milk and in the summer, they can be soaked overnight before consumption. Remember to keep the quantity moderate. You don’t want to end up with extra weight and diabetes in a bid to boost your sex life, right?

So, try out a couple of these things and see your sex drive pick up some speed!
