If you think being a nymphomaniac has to do only with men, then let us tell you gender has no role to play there. For your information, women can be as horny as men; it’s all about how high your sex drive is.
When it comes to your libido, the fluctuations are seen more in women, because our hormones go through a lot of transitions. And this just doesn’t happen every month, but primarily during pregnancy and menopause.
You will be surprised to know that a high sex drive can also be dependent on your emotional and mental state. Because it is your mood that drives the urge for sex – that’s why it’s called sex drive.
Of course, if those sexual urges are momentary, then there is no harm. But if it isn’t going away, then you should definitely see a doctor.
According to Dr Shilpa Ghosh, gynecologist at Aakash Healthcare, a person’s libido is particularly influenced by the following factors:
1. Biological factors like the level of estrogen and testosterone in the body.
2. Psychological factors like stress, anxiety, etc. Social factors like physical relationships also have a role to play.
Another thing that you need to understand is that your brain is the biggest sex organ. The parts that respond invariably when you think or have sex are:
So, it won’t be totally wrong, if you blame your brain for your high sex drive.
“The libido varies from body to body. Someone’s normal libido could be about having sexual desires once a day, someone else’s could be zero. A high libido becomes a matter of concern, as it may lead to sexual compulsion when you feel the urge. This is called out of control sexual behaviour (OCSB) or hyper-sexuality,” she explains.
Here are some symptoms that can reveal if you have OCSB:
• Your increased desire for sex has a negative impact on your health, relationships, life, and work.
• Lack of concentration
• You pay more attention to the urge for sexual desire
• You use sexual behaviour to escape problems like stress, depression, loneliness etc.
• You face difficulty in maintaining healthy relationships or intimacy
The rise in estrogen levels of women during ovulation is one of the most common causes for an increased sex drive. High testosterone levels in men have also been linked to higher libido. Other possible causes can include:
1. Fluctuation in hormones
2. Menstrual cycle
3. Seasonal changes
4. Overdose of an omega-3 rich diet
5. Excess consumption of alcohol
6. Pregnancy hormones
7. Too much masturbation
1. Try sharing what you feel with your partner.
2. “Some people derive great relief, pleasure, and pride from channeling their sexual energy into other things. Popular pursuits include long distance running, dancing, learning the guitar, abseiling, DIY, cooking, and yoga,” recommends Dr Ghosh.
3. Masturabate regularly.
4. Stay sexually active.
So ladies, if you feel an uncontrollable urge for sex, you know all the reasons behind it.
