There are a few things in life that you just cannot change. One of them happens to be periods. While you cannot do much about your periods, you can certainly do many things to ease your period pain. Till now, painkillers and heating pad might have been your resort to deal with painful cramps. But then again, pain killers come with a plethora of side effects—especially in the long run. So, what do you do?

The best way to avoid the side effects is to switch to something which is natural and yet very effective when it comes to treating period pain. And surprisingly, a study has found that thyme oil can help reduce your period pain just like painkillers.

The study published in the journal Caspian Journal of Internal Medicine found that thyme oil can be a great alternative to painkillers. The best part? It is cheap and easily available in local and online stores and provides faster relief from the painful cramps without any side effects! Sounds interesting right? Here’s more about this oil:

Thyme oil is more effective than a pain killer!

The study conducted by Babol University of Medical Sciences studied 84 participants between the age 18 to 24. The participants were randomly administered thyme oil, ibuprofen and a placebo. The researchers found that the thyme-oil group reported less pain as compared to ibuprofen or placebo.

Thyme oil also has anti-inflammatory properties

If a study from Japan’s Nara Women’s University is to be believed then thyme oil inhibits the cyclooxygenase-2 enzyme activity which is responsible for the inflammatory processes in the body. With the reduced activity of the enzyme the pain also reduces, making thyme oil an excellent pain-relieving ingredient!

But note that…

Since it is an essential oil, you need to be careful while using it and should always use it with another carrier oil. So there you have it! Ditch all those pain killers and switch to thyme oil for better relief!
