Tips to fight period irritation

Periods can increase your likelihood to feel itchiness down there. The expert shares some tips to deal with the issues concerning period irritation.

It’s that time of the month. Learn to deal with period irritation with these tips!

1. Try using a tampon or a menstrual cup

To control irritation during menses, it is important to be aware of the skin problems you are already having. If you have dry skin, sanitary napkins can contribute to a lot of skin irritation. Since most of them are made up of synthetic material, the irritation usually increases. So, make sure that instead of a sanitary napkin, you can try using a menstrual cup or a tampon. You might have to consult your gynecologist to find out the menstrual cup size that is safe for you and how to use it. Women across all age groups can use the menstrual cup as it is very safe and easy to use. Tampons have been in use for a longer time. So, instead of sanitary napkins, one can try using the other safer options to keep skin irritation at bay, suggests the expert.

2. Use a sanitary napkin made using breathable fabric

If you are a newbie who has apprehensions about using a tampon or a menstrual cup, then you can find safer ways of using a sanitary napkin without irritation. Go for a napkin that is made up of breathable fabric, and make sure you are changing it regularly. Refrain from using the same napkin for a long period in case you have a heavy flow.

Use a sanitary napkin that has breathable fabric to avoid any period irritation.

3. Keep your vaginal and under area clean regularly

Your vaginal area is delicate, and skin infections can be caused during periods. The expert reckons to keep the under area as clean as possible. You rinse it off using normal water after regular intervals of 4-5 hours. This can prevent any underlying infection. You may take a warm bath, or use ointments in case irritation persist.

4. Don’t be scared of vaginal odour

Vaginal smell can be tangy or even sweet, which is completely normal and is a normal part of the body’s functioning. The vagina is a self-cleansing organ and works hard on its own to keep the acidic levels balanced during periods, sex and ovulation.
