We are six months into the work-from-home and self-isolation culture and we are pretty sure you have forgotten all about your skinny jeans and tight leggings by now. Tight and synthetic clothing restricts the flow and circulation of air around your groin, trapping heat and moisture in your vaginal region. This creates an ideal environment for bacterial infections.

Now, since you’ve been wearing loose clothing through and through these days, chances are your vaginal health is blooming. Don’t believe us? Then read this:

  1. Your chances of vaginal thrush are at an all-time low
Vaginal thrush is a common yeast infection that almost all women face at some point or the other. Signs like itching, inflammation and soreness down there, stinging sensation when you pee, and/or experiencing pain during sex are tell-tale signs of this infection. It just so happens that women who wear tight-fitting pants like skinny jeans all the time are more prone to this vaginal problem. These clothes a sweaty environment in the crotch area which in turn creates an environment that lets the thrush thrive.

  1. You are rescued from urinary tract infection
Regularly wearing jeans can lead bacteria to not only accumulate down there but also bacteria get in the urethra, which causes urinary tract infections (UTI) like cystitis to happen. What happens when you get a UTI? It starts with you feeling the need to pee more often and when you get down to do the deed, it is slow to start and the stream is reduced.

UTI also leads to pain and burning while peeing and a general feeling of discomfort around the bladder also persists.

  1. Your PJs are reducing your risk of vulvodynia
Vulvodynia is a chronic pain syndrome of the vulva which can be characterised by the sensations of burning, irritation, stinging or sharp pain.

The pain could be intermittent or it could last for years together. It can be experienced after having sex, using tampons, or when pressure is applied to the vagina when you sit for long periods of time. A break from those tight-fitting pants that put pressure on your groin can help reduce your risk of vulvodynia.

4. Bid adieu to jock’s itch
Women can get jock’s itch too. Caused by a type of fungus, called dermatophyte, it can happen to both men and women. It causes a red rash that looks very similar to ringworm. It becomes scaly and makes the skin very itchy.

So, you have to thank the pandemic for keeping you away from your jeans for all this while, and giving your lady bits the freedom it deserves. So, add some baggy pants and skirts to your wardrobe and let your privates breathe. After all, keeping it real is the new chic ladies
