When the autumn winds blow, the winter sets in, or the summer sun shines brighter than ever–it fills my heart with the excitement. And well, my nasal passage with mucus!

Yes, you read that right. Unfortunately, I belong to the category of women who can catch a cold at any given instance. What’s even more unfortunate is the fact that the medication to dry up the mucus dries up more than just that. I hate to say this, but it also dries up my vagina and makes it itchy and uncomfortable.

Vaginal dryness is a known and recognized side effect of medicines congestion—thanks to the presence of antihistamines and decongestants in them. They shrink blood vessels to decrease the moisture levels and subsequently reduce mucus throughout the body.

So did I combat vaginal dryness?
The jugaadu risk-taking Indian in me prompted me to go against all warnings ever issued by gynecologists to avoid oiling the vagina. But I was desperate and uncomfortable, and wanted immediate relief. That’s when I thought of using coconut oil down there.

Thank God, it worked! The virgin coconut oil that can soothe this dryness everywhere else on the body, worked its magic down south too.

In fact, contrary to the popular belief of coconut oil worsening your case, many studies like the one published on PubMed Central have found that coconut oil to possess antimicrobial and antibacterial properties.

Of course, the thing to note here is that I only applied on the oil on the inner vaginal lips and not inside the vaginal canal.

Now, coconut oil may not be a sure short way to cure vaginal dryness, but it really did work for me.
