Now that you’re here, we’d like to tell you that you are just a little effort away from knowing how to take care of your vagina. This little effort can actually go a long way in ensuring that your vagina stays healthy and free of any discomfort.

While your vagina is a self-cleansing organ, it still needs care and attention. So, why restrict self-care rituals only for your face and hair? Taking care of your vaginal health is one of the most important things to do since it ensures that you steer clear of any infections and are able to maintain excellent reproductive health.

Here are 5 simple but effective self-care rituals that you can follow to maintain good vaginal health:

1. Always use a lubricant

Even if don’t have vaginal dryness, using lube during sex is always a good idea. Lubricants not only increase the pleasure quotient but also save you from any discomfort or micro-tearing because of the friction.

However, research published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Diseases found that consistent use of lubes can increase the vulnerability to STIs. So, try out natural lubes such as coconut oil or olive oil for long-term benefits.

2. Clean it the right way

Most ladies are aware of the fact that the vagina is a self-cleaning organ. So, it doesn’t need any fancy products for cleanliness. Using plain water with gentle soap is not just enough but also advisable.

If you have particularly sensitive skin, you must stay away from all intimate products available in the market. Products with intense fragrance are often laden with chemicals that may disrupt the environment of the vagina.

3. Wear a comfortable underwear

No matter how beautiful and sexy lacy underwear looks, it is recommended that one wear only cotton underwear. In a study published in the journal, Obstetrics and Gynecology, it was noted that wearing underwears made of polyester or synthetic fabric can increase the risk of yeast infections.

4. Be gentle when drying yourself down there

‘Be gentle’ is the universal rule when it comes to handling your vulva and vagina. Whether you are washing it or drying it, do not do it vigorously. Vigorously rubbing your vulva with a towel can be damaging to the sensitive vulvar tissue. So, be patient and gentle.

5. Say goodbye to douching

We have already mentioned it twice that vagina is a self-cleaning organ. So, what is the need for douching? Even the National Women’s Health Information Center claims that women who douche are at a higher risk of developing bacterial vaginosis and STDs as compared to those who don’t douche.

Also, watch:

Discharge is absolutely normal and you don’t have to flush it out with water or anything else. Moreover, douching can also kill the good bacteria which may further disrupt the pH balance.

So, ladies, incorporate these good practices to your routine to ensure you stay healthy down there!
