Pubic hair and its presence on our lady parts is a tad controversial. Whether you like it or not, they help to maintain hygiene and the good health of your vagina. Everyone has pubic hair, but we all make different decisions regarding what we do with it. But how well do you know your pubes? Well, you don’t know them well enough, if you believe in these myths.

Here’s a list of most believed pubic hair myths and why you should stop believing them right away.

Myth 1: Pubic hair makes sex less enjoyable

This one varies from woman to woman. The skin in your genital region is delicate, and is protected by pubic hair. Many women think pubic hair acts as a protective buffer, reducing friction during sex. Moreover, it makes sex more smooth, but some women prefer the more intense feels that happen when they’re hair-free. It’s all about preference. You can enjoy sex, even if there’s hair.

Myth 2: Colour of the pubic hair is the same as the hair on the scalp

Pubic hair colour doesn’t depend on the colour of the hair on your head. The colour of your hair is determined by the amount of melanin in each hair, which can be different. The melanin production is slightly more in the pubic area, hence the hair is darker there. So, pubic hair colour doesn’t match the hair on your head.

Myth 3: A full bush is a turn-off

This again is a myth people comfortably believe in. In fact, pubic hair could be a turn on, because it’s full of pheromones and people who are scent-sensitive may be more attracted to it.

Myth 4: Pubic hair never stops growing

Your pubic hair won’t keep growing forever to endless lengths. Pubic hair stops growing when it reaches a certain point. The length at which it halts varies from person to person, but it stops between 0.5 to two inches. So don’t worry ladies, pubic hair is not going to keep growing forever!

Myth 5: You shouldn’t shave down there if you have sensitive skin

Since pubic hair is the thickest hair on the body and the skin around it is sensitive, it is best to leave the hair as it is, right around the vaginal area. That’s because they are there to protect. However, shaving aggressively close to the skin can cause itching and irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. Consider hair removal methods like waxing or laser hair removal.

Myth 6: Pubic hair protects against STDs

The study finds no link between sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and pubic hair. Research published in the journal PLOS ONE reveals that women who wax or shave their pubic hair do not appear to have a higher risk of contracting STDs.
