You must have read a lot about vaginal problems and how to predict if your vagina is unhealthy. But, have you ever taken a minute to think about what’s normal for your vagina?

There are certain things that point to a change in your vaginal health. These include:

  • Change in colour, odour, or amount of vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal itching
  • Bleeding in between periods, after sex, or after menopause

It is so easy to spend time thinking about what’s going wrong down there but sometimes, finding out what’s right gives a chance to celebrate! So, here’s how you can tell your vagina doing well.

Look out for these signs of a healthy vagina
1. Normal vaginal discharge

Vaginal discharge is common and it can predict a lot about your intimate health. Vaginal discharge is produced by glands in the vagina and cervix. Although it can differ from woman to woman, normal vaginal discharge is normally clear or milky. It has a faint odour that is neither unpleasant nor foul. In addition, normal vaginal discharge isn’t of unusual colour and does not cause itchiness. If this is what you’re experiencing, your vagina is performing well!

2. No itching down there

A healthy vagina shouldn’t be itchy. Vaginal itching often occurs due to infections, menopause, irritating substances, or can be the result of certain skin disorders or sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Vaginal itching can lead to a burning sensation with redness and swelling in and around the vaginal area. This condition is not a sign of a healthy vagina!

3. A familiar scent

Not everyone is able to smell the vaginal odour. But, your vagina isn’t odourless. It might smell distinctly like a vagina. It has many possible smells, from coppery to sweet. If the smell of your vagina is pungent and unpleasant, you need to visit a doctor for a check-up. Keep in mind that vaginal odour may change with hormonal shifts during pregnancy, menopause, and the menstrual cycle.

4. Pain-free sex

A woman can experience pain during sex if there isn’t sufficient vaginal lubrication. Women may experience extreme pain during sex because of conditions such as vaginismus, infections, or problems with the cervix. However, if during the intercourse you aren’t experiencing pain, then your vagina is in great health.

5. No general pain

A range of infections can affect the vulva or vagina, causing pain and sometimes a feeling of heat down there. Pain in the vagina signifies a problem! To find out the cause behind your vaginal pain, you need to see a doctor at the earliest.
