Of all the grossest things that we humans can do, peeing in the shower perhaps makes it to the top ten on the list. Sure, it might not be as gross as peeing in the pool–but it is gross nonetheless. Or is it?
What if we were to tell you that relieving yourself while you take a bath is more hygienic than you thought it was. Oh, and peeing in the shower is good for the environment too! Before you go “ewwww” and close this tab, read all the reasons why peeing in the shower is actually a good idea.
1. Your urine has low amounts of bacteria
While your pee is not completely pathogen-free, it doesn’t have dangerously high amounts of bacteria to cause an infection. So even if you have a cut or wound on your feet or legs–the chances of your urine giving you an infection is next to nil.
2. Your urine is mostly water
In healthy people, urine is mostly made of water, electrolytes, and urea–which is just waste your body is excreting. There is absolutely nothing unhygienic there that cannot be released while you’re washing yourself.
3. You’re washing off menstrual blood and feces while you bathe in any case
You may not be peeing or pooping while you shower, but in the process of cleaning your nether regions–then be it the vulva or the butt crack–you are washing off some fecal matter and menstrual blood in any case. So why stop yourself peeing properly in any case?
4. Your pee is going go down the drain faster than you think
If you’re worried about festering in your own urine in the bath then let us tell you that the running water is going to carry off pee faster than you can count to ten. Until and unless, you decide to pee in a bathtub full of water–the chances of you splashing in the puddle of your bodily water is pretty slim.
5. Peeing in the shower is good for the environment
Depending on the flush system that you are using, with each flush you waste anywhere between six to 12 litres of water. Now, when you pee in the bath–whether you use a shower-head or the bucket–you end up saving those precious litres.
So, still grossed out by the prospect of peeing in the shower? Well, all we can say it–you’ve got to at least once before you write it off completely. We’re sure you’ve done worse things! *wink*
