Don’t we all love the monsoon season for the lovely weather it brings? Add to it, some delicious food, and it’s a party for sure! But clearly not for your vagina. With this season comes a whole lot of humidity, and that means you are more prone to vaginal infections and bacteria. But why is it that these conditions grow manifold during this time of the year? That’s because infections tend to stay alive for longer than in a dry environment. So, if you experience vaginal itching all the time, you know why! But what are some of the causes that aggravate these issues during this season? Let’s find out now!

Causes for vaginal infections

1. Increased humidity: As mentioned above, there is increased humidity in the air, which makes it easier for bacteria to grow. Make sure you maintain proper hygiene and dry your vaginal area properly after washing it. Any kind of extra moisture is going to only add to your woes, and that’s something we don’t want!

2. Low pH levels: As we know, the pH levels of the vagina are extremely important to maintain, and any disturbance can wreak havoc on your vaginal health. It is believed that due to excess humidity during the monsoons, the chances of a woman getting a vaginal infection is much higher. Make sure you don’t douche at all, simply use soap and water to clean the vaginal area.

3. Low immunity: Did you know your immunity goes down during the monsoon season? Yes, it’s true. That’s exactly why we are prone to catching all kinds of infections, including in your vaginal area. And that’s exactly why there are more incidences of urinary tract infections, vaginitis, yeast infections more. In case you experience thick vaginal discharge, frequent itching as well as urination, make sure to consult a doctor at the earliest.

4. High intake of spicy foods: Of course, there’s immense joy in indulging in spicy foods like pakoras and chaat during the monsoon, but do not for the sake of your vaginal health. That’s because eating spicy foods in large amounts decreases the pH levels of the vagina, and disturbs the balance, making you more prone to such infections.

Things to remember

Here are a few things you must be mindful of, especially during the monsoon season:

  1. Maintain personal hygiene
  2. Clean your vagina after intercourse
  3. Wipe front to back
  4. Do not douche
  5. Maintain good menstrual hygiene

So ladies, make sure you take extra care during this season! After all, prevention is better than cure!
