You could have everything in life and still feel stuck. And if you are feeling so, it means your life demands some real changes. Who you are should never be constant as you are a continuously evolving and growing being. Every new chapter of life demands a new you. Even if it’s not a new chapter, you can reinvent yourself by bidding adieu to parts of you that no longer serve your highest good. There are some positive changes and healthy habits you can create for yourself to become the best version of yourself.
Health Shots got in touch with a clinical psychologist Dr Kamna Chhibber, to understand how to reinvent yourself.
Self-growth and improvement are not easy tasks. They require a lot of discipline and mental agility to conquer your fears, self-doubt and insecurities to emerge into a new you. However, these words of wisdom from the experts make life lessons easier and help make your journey easy.
“Take stock of yourself and your life. Build an understanding of what is making you feel stuck and what about yourself and situations may be contributing to the same,” says the expert.
If you are equipped with a deeper understanding of yourself, you will be able to better manage your triggers, fears, negative emotions or feelings. Only with self- awareness, can you start finding the applicable and relevant solutions that can help you in reinventing yourself.
Give yourself ample time to determine areas of yourself and your life where you need to bring about some changes. Whether it’s a poor lifestyle, negative self-talk or clinging to limiting beliefs, give yourself enough time to understand who you really are and where can changes be incorporated.
Sometimes, people who love you and stay in proximity with you know and understand you better. The expert advises you to take inputs from people who matter- friends, family, mentors, advisors- who you know have been invested in you and your growth.

The expert says, “Start with small changes to make bigger and better shifts in your life. Small steps can ensure you stick with them in the longer run. If you try to do too many things, it is possible that the changes may not sustain for long and you keep feeling overwhelmed”.
It is always natural to feel intimated by drastic shifts in your life. To reach your goal, you always have to start small. Like, instead of waking up at 6 a.m., you can start by waking up half an hour early each day. This way you are making your body get accustomed to bringing about changes.
Be patient with yourself if you find yourself reverting back to old patterns. Don’t get hassled or feel defeated. Going back to the new way is important. Also, give yourself reinforcement for the accomplishments you have achieved.
“While trying to change and improve, don’t lose sight of things that are good, great, and wonderful about you. Hold on to these even as you feel you need to change or reinvent who you are,” says the expert.
True wisdom lies in unlearning and re-learning parts about yourself.
