Cough and cold are common side effects of the winter season and all of us go through it at some point or the other. But having constant bouts of cough can be tiring and troublesome. So, what can be done to soothe a sore throat? You might have often heard your elders advising you to chew on mulethi to stop the cough. And guess what? It works!
Mulethi, also known as licorice, is an age-old home remedy for cough and sore throat and has scientifically proven benefits too. Mulethi is an integral part of India’s Ayurveda medicine system. This is largely due to its multiple medicinal benefits that enhance a person’s health and well-being. Apart from being good for cold and cough it has other benefits too like:
* Improves digestion
* Boosts immunity
* Provides relief from menstrual cramps
* Ensures good oral health
* Enhances memory
* Good for the skin
* Can help with hair problems like dandruff and hair loss
Even though mulethi is not bitter and has a sweet taste, many people find it difficult to directly start chewing on it. It is also a lengthy process as you have to keep chewing it for quite some time. So, let’s take a look at some other ways that might make it easier for you to have mulethi.
If you are suffering from a sore throat, you can gargle with mulethi water every morning to provide some relief to your throat. Add a tablespoon of mulethi powder to a glass of lukewarm water and gargle with it. If you don’t have the powder, you can just boil some sticks in the water, let it cool down and then use it.
Mulethi tea is a warm and delicious way to reap the benefits of mulethi. You can have mulethi tea 2-3 times in a day and it is bound to reduce your cough. For this, you need to boil some crushed mulethi roots in one cup of water. Once it boils, simmer the gas and let it cook for 5 minutes. You can strain it and enjoy it or you can also add some ginger, tulsi and honey to it.
You can blend some mulethi sticks in a mixer jar and store it. This will make it easier for you to make mulethi water or tea. You can also gulp down a spoonful of mulethi powder with some warm water.
Try these methods and trust mulethi to help with your cough and sore throat!
