All in all, scars are very difficult to deal with. On the quest to find some best-at-home stuff to treat and fade scars, Health Shots got in touch with Dr Nivedita Dadu, a renowned dermatologist.
Dr Dadu says, “When it comes to treating scars and preventing permanent damage to skin, one should opt for the sooner, the better approach. You should be gentle with your recent scars and wash them mildly only with no detergent soap and water. Post inflammatory darkening, the scars should be treated with over the counter medications containing hydroquinone, salicylic acid, retinoids and vitamin C. However, one can also opt for many home remedies that heal, treat and lighten the scar effectively.”
Baking soda acts as a natural exfoliator and helps to gently scrape the scar. For this, mix two parts of water and one part of baking soda to make a light paste. Then, apply this paste on the scar and scrub this gently for a few minutes, after this wash it off from the face. Make sure you avoid rubbing vigorously.
Make coconut oil a part of the daily regimen. It can heal or help fade scars away to a great extent. One can also use coconut oil to lighten old scars as coconut oil is rich in omega fatty acids. It is capable of penetrating and moisturizing the skin to restore the glow and health of the skin.
“Aloe vera contains antimicrobial properties and has many benefits for the skin. If you suffer from old scars, aloe vera can work magically. It helps to reduce skin irritation and scars and increases the regeneration of new skin cells. It not only helps to minimise scars but can also improve skin texture,” says Dr Dadu, who is also the founder and chairman of Dr Nivedita Dadu’s Dermatology Clinic.
Vitamin supplements can help a great deal in minimizing facial scars. Before applying vitamin E oil, extract it from a capsule and apply it on the scars area before sleeping. It will work as an effective method to fade out spots and scars.
Potato juice contains phytochemicals that help to cleanse the skin and lighten pigmentation or spots caused by acne and pimples. It also makes the skin look replenished and clearer.
Dr Dadu advises, “To fade the scars, take two tablespoons of potato juice. Take a cotton ball and soak it in this potato juice and apply it to the affected areas. Keep it on for a few minutes and then wash it off using cold water. Apply potato juice 2-3 times a week to fade scars faster.”
For years, honey has been used for many medicinal purposes such as burns, wounds, and herpes. Raw honey helps to fade scars on the face. It contains bioactive compounds that help to stimulate tissue regeneration and can help to treat wounds.
Lavender oil possesses antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. It helps to fight any inflammatory response to infections on the skin and can help to heal the affected area and eliminate scars.
