You desire long, gleaming pink nails, but they’re brittle, short, and dull? If this is the situation with your nails, you are most likely not giving them the attention they need. You may nod your head in agreement if we take the liberty of saying that the process of growing nails can be more annoying than growing hair. But even then if you’re wondering how to grow nails faster, read on!
Health Shots spoke to Dr Nivedita Dadu, a renowned dermatologist, to list some tips to protect nails and to speed up their healthy growith
“Slow-growing nails are common as people get older, but they can also be an indication of sickness or nutritional inadequacy. Nails and their growth are affected by a variety of factors. First and foremost, you must quit biting your nails if you want them to grow faster,” says Dr Dadu, who is also the founder and chairman of Dr. Nivedita Dadu’s Dermatology Clinic.
Dr Dadu says, “Biting nails is not only unhealthy for the body but can also lead to bacterial infections.” Biting nails can also lead to chipped nails. ”
Anything that is laced with chemicals is not good for the long and healthy lives of the nails. Excessive use of gel and acrylic nail paint also affects the natural growth of the nails.
The secret to growing your nails faster and preventing breakage is to keep them hydrated and treat them with the correct ingredients/chemicals and vitamins. Hand soaps, dishwashers, and environmental aggressors dry out the nails, making them more prone to breakage. Use a hand cream that can give proper nail care, containing petroleum jelly, because it is known to strengthen and moisturize the nails, promoting healthy development.
Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, which makes it a great nail supplement. Dr Dadu suggests massaging oil on the nails and fingers before going to bed every day for better results.
The nails will grow faster if they are given some TLC and if proper nail care habits are followed. To avoid unwanted breakage and damage to the nails, trim them on a regular basis. File the nails, use a base coat before painting them, and note how quickly they grow.
“Biotin is the powerhouse vitamin for nail and hair growth. Always include biotin-rich foods such as bananas or avocados in your diet. You can take biotin supplements along with it. Before taking biotin supplements, do consult your dermatologist,” says Dr Dadu.
Vitamin C is thought to be extremely beneficial to nail growth. At least once a day, rub lemon juice on your nails. It should be rubbed for five minutes before being rinsed with warm water. This practice will promote nail growth while also keeping them clean and free of bacteria.
Folic acid, or vitamin B9, is abundant in leafy vegetables, particularly spinach. This helps to supplement and strengthen nail growth, making them strong. A daily serving of greens will help you grow stronger and longer nails.
Dr Dadu says, “Be it a neutral shade or a bright one, before putting on any nail color, applying a base coat is a must. This will provide a protective layer to the nails and will make the nails stronger and healthier.”
So, try these tips and grow your nails faster and stronger!
