Among hundreds of fruit species available in India, Bael is one of the fruits which is still not widely known or consumed. It has umpteen health benefits, ranging from being a cure for several health problems to a cooling agent for the summers. It can be consumed in many ways, you can cut it and eat it, dry it and make candies, squeeze it to get a chilled juice, or even make a chutney out of it. However, bael sherbet is certainly one drink that we should all enjoy this season.

Renowned nutritionist and author Kavita Devgan shared the benefits of bael fruit in her recent Instagram post and recommends bael sherbet as a summer coolant drink.

Well, this pear-shaped, green-coloured fruit is not only beneficial for health but is tasty, too. Its orange pulp is aromatic and sweet in taste. This superfood is rich in vitamin C, vitamin B-complex, various minerals, and dietary fibers. Besides cooling the body, it helps cut cholesterol and prevent respiratory issues

We list down some of the bael sherbet benefits:

1. It has cooling properties

Having a chilled glass of bael juice or sherbet will help you cool down instantly. It is a good replacement for ice-creams or any sugary drinks as bael fruit is naturally sweet and won’t be harmful to your health.

2. Prevents respiratory issues

According to Ayurveda, the oil extracted from a bael fruit can help in the treatment of respiratory problems. A study by NISCAIR suggests that bael fruit might have properties that can be used as a protective agent against COVID-19.

3.  It helps cut cholesterol

Bael juice helps in controlling cholesterol and reduces its levels in the blood. The fruit is rich in antioxidants which helps in keeping the heart healthy.

4. Immunity booster

Bael fruit is highly rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, which makes it a great immunity booster.

5. Acts as a blood purifier

Bael is a natural detoxifying agent. It is rich in minerals like potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, and iron which help in flushing out the toxins. This property of bael also makes it great for the skin as it prevents acne.

Recipe for Bael Sherbet

Kavita Devgan brings you the recipe of bael sherbet, which will send chills you down to your bones, in a rather good way.

To make it:

1. Cut the fruit from the middle, separate out the seeds and scoop out its pulp.
2. Add the pulp to some water and leave it for an hour. You can add the water to reach your desired consistency.
3. After an hour, strain it nicely to get the extract from the pulp.
4. Chill it in the refrigerator and your bael sherbet is ready!
