Just one teaspoon of ghee in your katori of daal can make it tastier but many of us abstain from it because of the belief that it will cause weight gain. If you belong to this club, then you should definitely hear out actress Rakul Preet!

In her latest YouTube video, ‘WTF–What The Food’, episode 3, Rakul revealed that she consumes ghee every day. Interestingly, her nutritionist Rashi Chowdhary suggested that one should eat ghee regularly because it “works as a fire extinguisher”.

Rakul cautions against giving in to excessive consumption. According to her, you shouldn’t eat too much ghee but practice moderation to reap its benefits. For example, she suggested that you can have ghee with your parathas because it is the best way to consume ghee.

Wondering how exactly can ghee be good for you?

Well, after sunflower and rice bran oil, ghee has the highest smoking point. It is appropriate for high heat cooking and for deep frying, according to nutritionist Rashi.

Apart from the smoking point aspect, here are 5 key factors Rakul’s video on YouTube talked about in order to clarify the myths surrounding ghee:

  1. Can people with lactose intolerance have ghee?

Rashi said, “Ghee and butter are both exceptions when it comes to dairy. They have negligible amounts of lactose and casein, especially ghee because ghee is clarified butter.”

  1. Does ghee cause cholesterol?

“This is such a myth that ghee causes cholesterol,” revealed Rashi. She clarified that when your cholesterol goes up, it is not because of fat or ghee or eggs that you’re eating. It is because there is too much inflammation. Rakul added that “cholesterol is because of consuming bad fats and not good fats”.

  1. Is ghee good for weight loss?

Rashi said, “Ghee is good for weight loss because it really acts as a fire extinguisher. The digestive fire we have when our gut is not okay, ghee helps to settle down that.” We all must have ghee in moderation.

On this Rakul shared her experience with ghee, saying, “I haven’t missed a day of ghee and I travel with my ghee everywhere I go because ghee makes the absorption of other nutrients very good throughout the day and that’s how it also helps in great health and weight loss.”

  1. Is ghee good for our skin?

Vitamins A, D, E, and K are all fat-soluble. So, when you cut fat out of your diet, your skin may start looking unhealthy because of reduced absorption of important vitamins. So, it’s important for you to consume ghee every day for luscious and glowing skin.

  1. What type of ghee is best?

Rashi suggests making ghee right at home with organic milk. In any case, you should pick out an organic variety of ghee even if you’re picking it out from outside.

In the end, Rakul asks all of us to enjoy our ghee with parathas! So, we thank Rakul for clarifying our misconceptions about ghee.
