Omelette for breakfast is a low-cost, but high-protein food that is readily available. It is also simple to prepare at home and is always available at your favourite cafe. But, did you know that including eggs as an omelette in your diet not only supports weight loss but also feeds the body with essential nutrients?

So, how many calories are in an omelette? A masala omelette has 240 calories in it. Protein and carbs are responsible for 56 and 18 calories, respectively. Fats provide the remaining 166 calories. A daily calorie requirement for an adult is 2000 calories, and an omelette supplies about 12 percent of that.

You may make your omelette more filling by adding bread to it. A two-bread omelette contains 356 calories, with the two slices of bread accounting for 151 of those calories.

Dr. Farha Aslam Jawre, Nutritionist, BeBodywise, Mosaic Wellness, spoke to HealthShots to share some benefits of including omelette or eggs in your diet.

Here’s what eating omelette for breakfast does to your health:

1. Source of protein

Eggs contain nine necessary amino acids and are good sources of protein. A 50-gram egg contains 87 calories and 6.7 grams of protein. Those who do not eat non-vegetarian food such as meat and fish can get their protein fill from eggs.

2. Builds and strengthen bones

Calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D are all abundant in eggs. These nutrients, when combined with protein, help in the building and strengthening of bones. These can also help in osteoporosis prevention and treatment (a medical condition that weakens the bones and makes them brittle).

3. Helps in the prevention of heart diseases

Vitamin B1 in eggs protects the nerves, improves glucose metabolism, and helps in the production of red blood cells, lowering the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

4. Beneficial for the eyes

Many vitamins are included in eggs. Vitamin A keeps your eyes healthy by helping to alleviate the symptoms of dry eye, a condition that dries the eyes by preventing lubrication.

5. Prevents fatigue

Iron in eggs maintains a healthy and consistent supply of oxygen throughout the body, preventing fatigue and tiredness. It helps you in staying alert and active throughout the day.

6. Helps in weight loss

Eggs help in weight loss by providing fewer calories while also keeping you fuller for longer, reducing the desire for high-calorie snacks. Over-fried eggs or a buttery omelette, an oil-free omelette, a scrambled, or a boiled egg is recommended for weight loss. Extra calories are provided by oil and butter, but they do not necessarily promote weight loss.

7. Improves the ability to concentrate

Because eggs contain choline, they are considered brain food. They improve concentration by keeping the brain’s cells healthy and active.

Antioxidants such as lutein and zeaxanthin can be found in eggs. By battling free radicals, these antioxidants reduce inflammation in the body and protect organs and cells. They protect the eyes from muscle degeneration and lower the chance of cataracts.
