Gone are the days of summers and winter months are just around the corner. So, your diet needs some changes as well, right? You need to ensure that you get proper nutrition especially during the colder months of the year.

When choosing foods for winter, ensure that you’re picking up ingredients that are in-season and fresh. This will help you ensure that you’re consuming foods that are full of nutrition. More than anything, take advantage of the season and pick up foods that are more abundant during the colder months.

Here are four superfoods you need to pick up during the winters for warmth and better health:

1. Ginger

From our sabzis to teas, ginger is a versatile ingredient that can be used in multiple ways. Truth be told, it has been used for keeping cold and flu at bay for centuries now! Gingerol, a compound present in ginger, has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe the sore throat and fight off infections. Given that winters are often the season of cold and cough, you need to start including more ginger in your diet during the winter months.

3. Beetroot

Beetroot is another vegetable you will find more commonly during the winters. It is known for its bright red colour and sweet taste. Hence, you can also eat it raw! It is often credited with lowering blood pressure in patients who suffer from hypertension. This is believed to be due to the presence of nitrates in beetroots. Similarly, consuming nitrates is also good for those who work out regularly because it can enhance the function of mitochondria and leave you feeling more energetic.
