Bone broth has gained a lot of popularity, especially among health-conscious people recently. So much that it is being touted as the ultimate health and beauty elixir by nutritionists and the beauty world alike. This is due to the fact that there are numerous health benefits of bone broth, especially in winters.

Many confuse a bone broth with a meat stock. However, the two are different mainly due to the amount of time they are cooked on low heat. It is supposedly known to leach out more nutrients and minerals as the liquid cooks for longer. In order to make broth, one needs to simmer the bones for a long time.

Here’s how to make a bone broth:

  1. Toss in all the bones with or without meat into a pot with a lid.
  2. Add any seasoning of your choice and herbs like rosemary, thyme, parsley to the pot.
  3. You can also add some hard vegetables like chopped carrots and broccoli stalks.
  4. Cover the lid and let it simmer for 6-8 hours.
  5. The nutrients from the boney bones will percolate into the liquid.
  6. This way you can have a nutritious soup or a dish base.

To list the ultimate benefits of drinking bone broth, Healthshots spoke to Ms Rubaina Adhikari, a dietician and fitness enthusiast based in Mumbai.

“Bone broth is full of nutrients, and it is quite beneficial in the winter season. Bone broth is incredibly nutritious, and including it in your diet could give a slew of health benefits in the winter season”, says Adhikari.

Here are some benefits of drinking bone broth:

Bone broths are easily digestible and high in nutrients, making them an excellent approach to strengthen your immune system. They can help you not only avoid seasonal ailments, but also recover if you get a cough, cold, or flu.

“Collagen, found in bone broths, is not only important for joint health but also assists bowel motions. There is a new term ‘vegan broth’. It may be misleading but this alternative is made out of plant-based elements.
