It’s sweater season again! Thanks to all the festivities and the pleasant weather, most people look forward to the colder season all year long. But, there’s definitely an aspect of this season that people want to stay away from which is the flu. The constant sneezing, a runny nose and the fever accompanying these symptoms can disrupt your daily life. When it comes to the seasonal flu, the saying ‘prevention is better than cure’ fits pretty well.

But, what to do if you’re already suffering from the flu?

It’s simple: you will have to consume certain foods that can support your immune system in its fight against the flu. What’s more, eating foods that can provide your body with some energy and warmth will go a long way in ensuring that the discomfort you experience can be dealt with.

Here is a list of six such foods that can help you in your fight against the flu:

1. Eggs

Eggs don’t just add versatility to the breakfast plate but also come with multiple health benefits. The selenium content in eggs helps keep your immune system working well. Moreover, eggs are also rich in protein and amino acids that help in building healthy cells in your body. The combined effect of all the components present in eggs can help your body put up a good fight against colds and flu.

2. Almonds

Known for memory-boosting properties, almonds are also great at protecting your cells against any damage. In a 2010 Italian study, the researchers found that a chemical found in almond skin boosts the response of your immune system against any infection. You can start adding almonds to your milk or salads to increase the intake.

3. Broth

Whether you are a vegetarian or a non-vegetarian, a bowl of broth is essential during the flu season. You can include broccoli and green leafy vegetables in it if you don’t want to add non-vegetarian ingredients. Not only will it help with the discomfort caused by a sore throat and cold but will hydrate and replenish your system with the nutrients that your body requires.

5. Pumpkin Seeds

Researchers from another study published in Advances in Therapy found that participants who were taking garlic supplements were less likely to even come down with a cold. So, including garlic can be one of the best preventive measures you can take!

Add all these to your diet if you’re down with flu that just won’t go away!
