Is your morning cuppa failing to revitalize your senses with you struggling to stay awake throughout the day? Or do you feel sluggish post lunch? While a number of people would consider daytime sleepiness as a normal thing, it might not be that simple.

From not getting the proper diet and lack of vitamins to a sedentary lifestyle–a number of factors could be responsible for feeling sluggish throughout the day.

Thankfully, there are a number of superfoods that can help. Superfoods are foods–plant-based as well as fish and dairy–that are thought to be nutritionally dense and good for your health. These ones can reenergise you, so try these foods to fight fatigue:

1. Watermelon
They are red, big, juicy and full of healthy properties. Dehydration could be one of the biggest reasons for making you feel sleepy throughout the day and it is important to pack your diet with food that’s high on water content.

Watermelon is 90% water and is a storehouse of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that replenish the body. The presence of the amino acid L-citrulline helps reduce muscle soreness too. A study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that the amino acid relieves post-exercise muscle soreness.

Studies have shown that the antioxidant lycopene that gives the flesh of the watermelon its red colour helps reduce risk of cancer and diabetes.

2. Almonds

Almonds have vitamin B which helps convert food into energy. They are also rich in magnesium which helps fight muscle fatigue. Having a mid-morning snack of a handful of almonds could be the way to go forward.

3. Kale
The leafy veggie is loaded with essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Oxidative stress can often leave the body feeling exhausted. Scientists have found that antioxidants help counteract oxidative damage by free radicals in the body.
