The very moment we hear of ‘warm milk’, we can’t stop but think of our childhood! Our mums would chase us until we finished the milk — boy, didn’t we give them a hard time! But they were always right, because drinking a warm glass of milk on a daily basis has its own benefits.
Of course, it is loaded with calcium, but apart from that, there’s a lot more it offers. To reveal that, we have a dietician from Apollo Telehealth, Dr Deepika Rani, let’s read what she has to say.
Here are the five major benefits of drinking warm milk:
According to Dr Rani, one cup of milk without any sweetener before going to bed is a great way to manage blood sugar levels, mainly for type – 1 diabetics, and who are prone to blood sugar fluctuations.
Warm milk helps in relaxing your mind and body. “A glass of warm milk consumed before going to bed helps in inducing and improving the quality of sleep. That’s because of the presence of substances called tryptophan.
You will be glad to know that if you want to improve your digestion and promote immunity you must include a glass of warm milk”, she suggests.
Also, listen:
“Basically, having one glass of warm milk, especially at bedtime, improves satiety. This stops any kind of cravings, and unhealthy snacking because of which you tend to lose weight,” she suggested.
Drinking warm milk enhances the nutrition quotient in the milk. The heating process activates the enzymes present in milk, and they are better absorbed by the body, thereby improving bone density.
“Drinking warm milk reduces the risk of bone-related diseases like osteopenia, osteoporosis, and fractures”, says Dr Rani.
If you are troubled with the issue of tooth decay and bad breath, then drinking warm milk daily can really help. Milk has a protective effect on your tooth enamel, reducing the risk of tooth decay. Milk has bioactive components that alter the microbial population residing on your dental plaque, thus giving a protective effect. And also when casein-phosphopeptides from milk react with calcium and phosphate on the tooth’s surface, they produce colloidal amorphous calcium phosphate complexes, which promote re-mineralisation of enamel.
Milk is regarded as complete food in itself, and its intake is a marker for diet quality because of its high nutrient content (e.g. energy, protein, fat and other micronutrients).
And when you couple it with some additional spices, then it will boost the impact even more! “A cup of warm milk with 2 pinches of turmeric is regarded to help in digestion and promote immunity,” she concludes.
