What comes to your mind when you hear the word superfood? We are sure that things like chia, quinoa, flax seeds and so on must top your charts. Isn’t it? But what about desi superfoods suggested by Ayurveda that have been aiding good health since forever?

Sadly, we have made them the Ayurvedic foods third-grade citizens in our diet because they don’t sound as “lit” as many others. But this is the biggest mistake you could possibly be making. And if you’re guilty of this sin, then we must draw your attention to one such desi superfood that can rescue you from this heat: bael fruit.

Also known as bel, this fruit is a summer splendour that you might remember from trips to your nani or dadi’s house. Known for its cooling effect on the body, the juice of this fruit can help prevent dehydration and help you brave the summer.

So let’s knock on nostalgia’s door with this home-made bael juice recipe that you are going to want more of.

Ingredient
1 bael fruit
250 ml water
Rock salt to taste
Chat masala to taste
1 lemon
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp cumin powder
2-3 ice cubes
3-4 mint leaves for garnish

Preparation

  1. Remove the peel of the bael fruit and scoop the pulp in a bowl. Now add water and let the fruit soak for half an hour.
  2. Using your hands crush this pulp in the water until it reaches the desired consistency. You can add more water if you find the mixture to be too dense.
  3. When water and pulp are mixed thoroughly, add honey, salt, chat masala, cumin powder, and lemon juice. Mix it well.
  4. Now put ice cubes in a glass and pour the juice over them. Garnish it with mint leaves and enjoy this summer slush.
