You might have been told by some that consuming certain spices on an empty stomach can help you lose weight. Now, there’s no doubt that some spices can give your metabolism the boost it needs, aiding weight loss.

There are, however, spices that should never be taken on an empty stomach because they can cause harm to the gut lining. Another thing to keep in mind is that just because the spice helps you lose those extra kilos doesn’t mean you should consume it in excess.

The thing is that if you eat a heavy quantity of spices on an empty stomach, it will only cause your gut to become acidic. This will lead to discomfort in the form of gas and heartburn. Practised over a period of time, it will cause damage to the gut lining apart from affecting the kidneys.

To steer clear of these ill-effects, ensure that you avoid consuming these 5 spices on an empty stomach:
1. Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a heavy spice and it can severely damage your liver. In fact, if you consume too much of it then it can lead to cinnamaldehyde allergy which can cause mouth sores, white patches in the mouth, and itching on the inner lining of the mouth.

2. Black pepper

There are various studies that suggest that excessive consumption of black pepper can reduce the effect of certain medications. Basically, it changes the biome of the gut due to which certain medicines don’t impact the body the way they should. In addition, it can also react with certain medicines and lead to allergies.

3. Paprika

If you eat paprika right in the morning on an empty stomach, you’re increasing your risk of stomach flu, abdominal irritation, and burning sensation in the gut.

So, even if you are consuming salad, try to avoid adding paprika to it. Try adding half a lemon to it instead for a zingy taste.

4. Fenugreek

If you have any respiratory issue then you should definitely stay away from fenugreek because consuming too much of it can trigger asthma. Other than that, you can end up feeling gassy and experience bloating along with severe pain in your lower abdomen.

5. Carom seeds

Ajwain is a great way to pump up your metabolism but you need to watch the dosage because it is a warm spice. Carom seeds instantly shoot up your temperature and can lead to heartburn, especially during summers. At times, it also leads to indigestion and can cause loose motions.
So, before you reach out for these spices for weight loss, ensure they’re the right choice for your health.
