A sedentary lifestyle, coupled with a stressful work environment and unhealthy eating habits often make people more susceptible to chronic diseases such as diabetes.

When blood sugar levels increase beyond control, doctors may prescribe medications or intake of daily insulin. They also advise people to exercise and bring about certain lifestyle changes. These restrictions help prevent one from getting heart diseases and other major ailments.

As a precaution, doctors also often advise diabetics to bring about some changes in their eating habits. However, fret not, because there are a number of foods that can help you control blood sugar levels naturally.

Still wondering what foods you can gorge on to keep your diabetes under control? Here is the list you’ve been waiting for:

1.Fatty fish
Fish can be a good protein to have for diabetics. Salmon, herring, anchovies, sardines, and mackerel are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which make them good for heart health. Diabetic patients who are at a high risk of heart disease and stroke should ensure they eat the right amount of these fats on a regular basis.

DHA and EPA present in fatty fish protect the cells lining the blood vessels by reducing markers of inflammation and improve artery function after eating. As per a study conducted by the Department of Medicine, University of Minnesota fish oils alter vascular reactivity and favorably influence arterial wall characteristics in diabetics.

Since fish is a great source of protein, it also helps you feel full and enhances your metabolic rate.

2. Eggs
This breakfast staple is a powerhouse of nutrients. Scientists say people with type 2 diabetes who eat two eggs daily as part of a high-protein diet showed improvements in cholesterol and blood sugar levels
