We are damn sure you must have heard a zillion times that you must eat carrots, if you want to avoid spectacles. Starting from your nani to your mother, if they have been asking you to have carrots since ages, then it’s time you better listen to them, as carrots are the ONLY superfood you need this winter. 

Apart from boosting eye health, carrots also benefit your health in many other ways. That’s why this root vegetable is often claimed to be the ‘perfect health food’. It is a complete package of health with flavour. The crunch and its highly nutritious nature makes it a very versatile vegetable. So, either have it in salads or add it to your meals! What’s more, it is also a good source of beta carotene, fibre, vitamin K1, potassium, and antioxidants. So, let’s find out what all carrots can do for your health.

1. Promotes heart health

As we mentioned earlier, carrots are rich in fibre. This helps in removing excess bad cholesterol or LDL cholesterol. And as you know, high blood cholesterol increases the risk of heart diseases. A study published in the European Journal of Nutrition also found a link between intake of carrots to lower cholesterol levels.

2. Aids weight loss

Is weight loss on your mind? Carrots can help you with that as well! Being rich in fibre and low in calories, it makes for the perfect food for weight loss. It keeps you feeling satiated, and you tend to snack less. This has also been confirmed by a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition. And since it’s rich in fibre, it promotes smooth bowel movement, keeping your metabolism and digestive system on track.

3. Boosts immunity

During this pandemic, we have learnt the importance of having a strong immune system. So, if you are looking to give your immune system a boost, then trust carrots. And being rich in vitamin A, it helps promote a good immune system. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Medicine has also confirmed this claim.

Moreover, carrots also have some amount of vitamin C, and several studies have shown vitamin C’s role in boosting immunity. These factors contribute to a better immune system.

4. Promote eye health

You must be already aware of this, but let us state why carrots promote good eye health. Vitamin A is considered essential to maintain good vision, and carrots are rich in vitamin A. A deficiency of vitamin A can disrupt the chemical processes in your eyes, which can give you poor eyesight and can even lead to night blindness.

5. Controls blood pressure

Carrot not only helps in lowering bad cholesterol levels, but also your blood pressure. Carrot is a powerhouse of potassium, and the potassium in it helps to relax your blood vessels and arteries. This enhances the blood flow circulation in your body, and brings down high blood pressure.
