If you’re from a typical Indian household, you probably already know the power of Ayurveda, the traditional medicine of India. However, most are unaware of the lesser-known but super powerful triphala and the great benefits it has for you!

The name of the wonder-tonic translates to ‘three fruits’ in Sanskrit and it is actually made

by combining equal parts three magic ingredients:

i) Amla (Phyllanthus emblica)
ii) Harada (Terminalia chebula)
iii) Bihara (Terminalia bellirica)

These are three traditional fruits with powerful medicinal, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidising properties.

Needless to say, the result is 3 times more powerful. This tonic aids digestion, controls diabetes, improves skin texture, boosts immunity, and supports bowel function like nothing else will.

1. It can regulate your blood sugar levels
Diabetic or not, when you eat food, it gets broken down into glucose for energy for the body to function. Insulin is a hormone secreted by the body after you eat in order to enable the body to absorb this glucose. Now, certain high-carb or sugary foods can spike the insulin levels in your body post their consumption. This means that you tend to absorb more glucose than you need. The excessive, unused glucose gets stored as fat and leads to weight gain.

However, as per a study conducted in 2007, triphala can lower the blood sugar levels due to the presence of phytochemicals in bihara. Thus, it helps in avoiding fat storage and consequential weight gain.

2. Triphala is packed with antioxidants
Triphala is a rich source of polyphenols (antioxidants) that can fight against free radicals in the body (the molecules that are responsible for causing cell damage and several illnesses).

According to a study published in the International Journal of Obesity, antioxidants can increase fat burning and boost metabolism by helping you get rid of the toxins produced by your fat cells. This, in turn, can make you lose weight.

3. It can help you get rid of bloating
Triphala is a natural laxative and helps stimulate bowel movements. It can also help you clear your stomach by drawing water from your body into your small intestines to soften the stool. As a result, you can get rid of the excess water that your body might have retained and thus relieve, bloating.

4. It can keep belly fat at bay
According to a 2007 study, the consumption of triphala can help you reduce your waist circumference as it can prevent the accumulation of fat—especially around your belly. It literally helps you reduce your waist size! Get ready to fit into your old pair of denims, gals.

Triphala is the magical elixir that you need to include in your life to lose those pounds!
