While Spring is a season of colors and renewal of life, it may leave us feeling a little fatigued at times due to the heatwaves and sunny days. To beat the seasonal blues, we need to take good care of our bodies by indulging in a workout routine and eating healthy. The season of Spring brings with it many wonderful bounties like blooming flowers, berries, and fruits. To make the most of them, we have a Spring refresh smoothie recipe just for you.
Well, this recipe is courtesy of Nikita Oswal, Founder and Chief Nutritionist, Fat2fitcurves, who also listed the superb benefits of all the nutritious ingredients of this easy to make smoothie.
“This Spinach Berry smoothie is great if you’re looking for a smoothie high in fiber and also helps keep your blood sugar levels more stable,” says Oswal.
• 1 cup fresh spinach/kale/2-3steaks celery
• 1/2 cup nut milk
• 1 cup mixed berries (frozen)
• 1/2 banana
• 0.5 scoop Oats (optional)
Preparation
Spinach is made up of 91% water and all berries are good foods for hydration. Putting spinach and berries into smoothies is an easy way to get some extra hydration.
Berries are rich in antioxidants, which combat free radical damage and can also help keep your skin looking younger. “By eating spinach in Spring, you’re just cleaning your skin, inside out”, affirms Oswal.
Berries, especially blueberries, may help the body burn fat and regulate fat storage. This in turn may help reduce cholesterol levels and abdominal fat.
The tryptophan found in spinach helps increase our levels of serotonin which boosts mood. Berries are high in flavonoids that may promote brain health and improve mood.
Berries and spinach are very high in fiber. It’s important to get adequate fiber each day to keep your digestive system cleansed, which in turn will help the rest of your body function properly as well.
