Summer is here, and that means we crave for foods that cool us down. Of course, there are refreshing drinks and ice-creams, but how about a sandwich? Yes, you heard it right. A sandwich is one of the most versatile dishes, and can be made super healthy and delicious. What’s more, you can have it at any point in the day. The best part is you decide the filling that goes into the sandwich.
That’s what celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija has done, in her recent Instagram post. Here’s what she wrote, “An easy recipe which everyone will love! Balanced protein, carbs, fats plus vitamins and minerals.”
Ingredients:
1. Add hung curd spread on top of one bread slice.
2. Peel the cucumber into thin slices. Lne them diagonally overlapping each other.
3. Cut the edges off.
4. Use pesto as a spread on the inside.
5. Add veggies of choice. I’ve used sauteed mushrooms and bean sprouts (protein quotient).
6. Cut in half and enjoy.
Cucumbers are perfect for the summer season for so many reasons. Let’s find out some of its benefits:
Cucumbers are made up of 96% water, which means it’s perfect to hydrate your body during the scorching summer heat. It also acts as a coolant, providing you some respite from the heat. Some people also consume water that has cucumber and mint to eliminate toxins from the body.
Cucumbers are a powerhouse of potassium, magnesium and dietary fibre. These nutrients are known to lower blood pressure, thus reducing the risk of heart disease. It is also believed that consuming cucumber juice regularly regulates blood pressure.
As mentioned above, cucumbers cool our stomach. The soluble fibre in cucumbers helps in slowing our digestion. Moreover, since cucumbers are largely made up of water, they make your stools soft and help you get rid of constipation.
