Well, said Rakul!

Must be wondering what’s so good about barley water? Hold on, because we are about to reveal it.

Here are some brilliant benefits of barley:
1. Barley aids in weight loss

Apart from all the other essential nutrients, barley is loaded with fibre, magnesium, selenium, and manganese. These minerals are not found in your regular diet, and that’s why they are important to maintain your weight. Plus, we all know if you want to maintain the fat content in your body, fibre is the only nutrient that can help. That’s because it helps in proper digestion of fat, helping you stay energised all day long.

2. It helps in maintaining cholesterol

According to the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, barley water helps to reduce bad cholesterol in the body. Taking barley in any other form can also help in doing so, but barley water is one of the most effective ways to keep healthy.

3. It helps in keeping your gut cool

All thanks to the presence of fibre. We all know that our gut endures maximum heat during the summer season, especially due to the kind of food we eat. Problems like ulcer, acidity, irritable bowel movement, constipation, and bloating are way too common during this season. And if your gut is unhealthy, how can you function properly? That’s why drinking barley water at least twice a week is a must.

4. Barley water helps in maintaining blood sugar levels

Those of you who have type 2 diabetes and find it really hard to maintain their blood sugar levels can lean on barley water for help.

Do you know barley boosts the functioning of some good gut bacteria like prevotella? This bacteria is known to help regulate blood sugar levels for up to 14 hours.

Now, you know why Rakul is a fan. The best part is you can totally make this healthy drink right at home. How? Read on to know.

Here’s how you can make barley water at home

Direction:

Step 1: Firstly, rinse the barley under cold water, until the water runs clear.

Step 2: Next, put the barley in a saucepan and add 6 cups of water.

Step 3: Wait for the mixture to boil over medium heat.

Step 4: Lower the flame and heat the mix for 15 minutes.

Step 5: Now, take it off the flame, and let it cool down. Strain the mixture into a bowl.

Step 6: Add honey and lemon juice. Stir the mix properly, and keep it in the freezer to chill.

Tip: Don’t add honey in the hot barley mix, as it can turn toxic.

Step 7: Once chilled, pour it in a glass and relish it all day long.

See how simple that was. So, do try it and have a chillaxing summer.
