Phalsa sharbat is the ultimate energy drink to beat the scorching heat

Summer is here and so is the heat wave. And the best way to keep yourself away from the ill effects of heat is to keep your fluid intake in check. But how much water can a person drink? Also, just drinking plain-old water is not going to help you all that much. In fact, clinical nutritionist, Dr Lovneet Batra suggests that plain water doesn’t replenish the sodium in your body.

And so we have for you a beverage that will quench your thirst, is tummy-friendly, and will save you from heat waves too. Get ready for a berry blast with this phalsa sharbat.

Ingredients
-100 gm phalsa berries
-Rock salt to taste
-3 tbsp honey
-3-4 mint leaves
-4-5 ice cubes
-250 ml water

Preparation

  1. Wash the phalsa berries and soak them in lukewarm water for 3 to 4 hours.
  2. Now with your hands crush the berries so that you can extract the maximum pulp.
    Tip: Crush them in the water while they were soaked for better consistency.
  3. Pass this pulp mixture through a sieve so that seeds and skin of these berries can be separated. Now add water to this pulp and mix it well. 
  4. With the help of mortar and pestle crush the mint leaves and add to the pulp mix. Also, add honey and rock salt, and mix well.
  5. In a glass, put some ice cubes and then pour this thirst-quenching phalsa sharbat. Garnish with some mint leaves and enjoy. 

Why is this phalsa sharbat so great for the summer?
During the scorching weather we sweat a lot and lose a lot of sodium content from our body. Due to this we feel weak, tired, and dizzy. During this time even doctors recommend you to stay hydrated and to take salt and sugar in water to maintain electrolyte balance. 

The good news is that falsa or phalsa berries are a rich source of sodium and potassium. Due to which it helps in maintaining the ions in the bloodstream and you feel refreshed and energized after sipping a glass of this phalsa sharbat. In fact, according to a study published in the World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, it is considered to be the best natural electrolyte.

Phalsa is also good for your gut
Dr Batra also suggests that in summers our digestive system goes for a toss and to revive the digestive enzymes consuming phalsa can help you big time. “Many times we tend to lose our appetite in summers. You can take a glass of phalsa sharbat in the morning and you are good to go”, she suggested excitedly.

Also, according to a study published in a journal of Medicinal Chemistry, Phalsa berries are rich in antioxidants and antimicrobial properties and therefore they are good for your gut too.  

“As it is rich in antioxidants it also helps in curing UTI” says Dr Batra. So, all and all phalsa is that one desi superfood that you must consume this summer.
