That’s why many devotees celebrate this auspicious festival with a lot of enthusiasm and devotion, offer prayers to Lord Shiva, and observe a fast. People keep a fast for the entire day or by eating specific foods with or without salt. While there are many foods you can make at home for your fast, we have a few salt-free fasting recipes for MahaShivratri.

HealthShots reached out to dietician and nutritionist, Avni Kaul, who shared with us a few fasting recipes that are healthy and can be made without salt.

Here are 5 fasting recipes for Maha Shivratri that can be consumed without salt:

1. Sabudana khichdi

Sabudana khichdi is a popular fasting food in India, especially during festivals like Navratri and Mahashivratri. Made with sago pearls, peanuts, and potatoes, it is a delicious and filling dish that is easy to digest. The dish can be seasoned with cumin, black pepper, and other spices that are allowed during the fast, making it a perfect meal for the occasion. Since it is gluten-free, it is highly recommended for people who are trying to lose weight and have diabetes.

2. Potato curry

Potatoes are a staple ingredient in fasting foods, and a simple potato curry without salt can be a great option for MahaShivratri. 5. Sweet potato chaat

Sweet potatoes are a good source of carbohydrates and are allowed during the fast. Sweet potato chaat is a delicious and healthy snack that can be made without salt. Boil sweet potatoes cut them into small cubes, and add lemon juice, black pepper, and rock salt to taste.
