We’ve all had those days when we’ve binged on junk food for days at an end, not realising how much harm it causes to our bodies! And ladies, doing it once in a while is not a bad idea, but come festive season, this becomes more of a habit. And even in case you eat homemade food, there are so many times we are exposed to heavy metals, pesticides and preservatives, and that causes so much toxicity in our bodies.

This detox drink is all the goodness you need for your health. It combines jaggery, dry ginger and cardamom, and some other spices—now that sounds like something! This cooler is popular in south India and has often been associated with Ram Navami and Narasimha Jayanthi because that’s when it is served in homes in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
It is also believed that Panakam was used as an ORS, especially because of the high humidity in these regions. Whatever be the reason, jaggery is the star ingredient of this concoction, because it is loaded with electrolytes and raw carbohydrates. It also contains a range of minerals like iron and potassium, while ginger is full of antioxidants.

75 gms jaggery
150 ml water
½tsp cardamom powder
Juice of 3 lemons
Pinch of salt
5 tsp ginger powder
1 tsp nutmeg powder
Method
1. Soak jaggery in the water till it melts completely
2. Filter the water to remove any particles
3. Add the lemon juice
4. Add the powders and stir well.
