Dietician Roopshree Jaiswal, Consultant – Dietitian/Nutritionist, Motherhood Hospitals, Mechanic Nagar, Indore, spoke to Health Shots about the benefits of drinking this mix!
“Stomach-related issues can be very unpleasant. People suffer from acidity and bloating, especially after having a heavy meal. Many just resort to taking an antacid to get some relief, but popping pills regularly isn’t a good idea. There are certain home remedies you can try out to help solve your digestive issues. One of them is the combination of mint powder, ajwain, black jeera, and a glass of water,” says Jaiswal.
1 glass water
1 tablespoon of mint powder
1 tablespoon of ajwain
1 tablespoon of black jeera (cumin)
Mix both cumin and ajwain seeds in the jar of water, add the mint powder to it and keep it overnight. In the morning, strain the water into a container and drink it post meal. You can also drink it first thing in the morning for better digestion.
In fact, according to Jaiswal, you can drink this in the form of tea. Boil the water left overnight until it is reduced in half. To enhance the taste, you can add some lemon or ginger to your tea.
Both the main ingredients involved – cumin and ajwain seeds – have several health benefits, especially when it comes to digestion. Ajwain has active enzymes which improve the flow of stomach acids. This helps in issues like indigestion, bloating, and gas. Ajwain has also been known to help in sores in the oesophagus, stomach, and intestine. It improves metabolism and can be helpful in weight loss as well.
“Similarly, cumin seeds, especially black jeera help in reducing symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) like belly ache and bloating. They are packed with antioxidants that not only improve your digestion but also boost your metabolism rate,” says Jaiswal. Drinking jeera water can help in removing the toxic elements from your body. It also improves your appetite. Further, kaala jeera is packed with essential vitamins like Vitamin A, c, and K.
Apart from this, mint is also a crucial ingredient in this digestive mix. The mint powder in the drink has antiseptic and antibacterial properties which help in soothing an upset stomach and facilitates easy digestion.
