This is what drinking too much coffee can do to your body

Coffee is great. Scratch that, it’s wonderful! But drinking too much of it can impact your heart health, bladder, sleep cycle, and more.

Remember how in the sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S, all the characters use to sit and chill in a café called Central Perk? We wish that someone would have told them that chilling out is fine but that too much caffeine is going to screw things up big time.

And why just blame coffee because there are numerous other partners in crime that we don’t even consider like soda, red bull, and more. Shocked? Who would have thought, right?

Wondering why we’re being so tough on caffeine? It’s all thanks to a study published in the journal Current Neuropharmacol which underlines that too much caffeine can have serious repercussions.

And it doesn’t end here. The study also lists how if not taken in moderation then caffeine can lead to anxiety, heart palpitations, stomach problems, and sleeping problems too.

So, just how bad can caffeine be if not taken in moderation?
A study published in a journal The Oncotarget states that drinking more than three to four cups of coffee daily in the long term can lead to myocardial Infarction–simply put, a heart attack.

But that’s not all! Your daily intake can do some damage too.

1. It can give you digestive issues
Notice how drinking coffee in the morning facilitates smooth bowel movements? Well, consuming caffeine in large amounts can give you diarrhoea and acid reflux.

2. Caffeine can also impact blood pressure
Caffeine stimulates the nervous system, as a result of which it elevates blood pressure. Although these spikes in blood pressure are temporary and have no significant bearings in healthy individuals, those who suffer from hypertension should limit their caffeine intake.

3. Caffeine can lead to incontinence
Apart from making you poop more, caffeine intake can also make you pee more. This is because caffeine acts as a mild diuretic. While, there is no concrete proof of dehydration being caused by this–a study did link this constant urge to pee thanks to too much coffee to incontinence in women.

4. It can make you tired and fatigued
We know what you’re thinking: but I drink coffee to feel more energized when I’m tired! Here’s the thing: the energy boost that caffeine offers is temporary. So once that effect wears off you tend to feel drained–which of you can combat with more coffee, and enter a vicious circle. And guess what else happens when you drink too much coffee? Sleeplessness, which turn can make you more tired and fatigued.

Bottomline?
Coffee is great! Admittedly, it can give you the strength and energy to take on the day. But, too much of anything–including that cup of Joe–is bad for you. So, limit your intake to one to two cups a day and enjoy its benefits.
