Since the dawn of COVID 19 last year, recovered patients have been reporting of mental and physical weakness. Fatigue, as it turns out, is a normal bodily response whilst fighting a viral infection in several cases, it continues even after full recovery. Fatigue includes a feeling of weakness in the body, lethargy, excessive sleepiness, loss of the ability to concentrate, disturbance with the menstrual cycle and could even impact the memory.

With respect to fatigue management, celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija says that “post covid fatigue impacts about 70% of people who have had COVID both mild or severe infections.” She adds, “since COVID-19 disease only made its debut in January 2020, medical experts are only just discovering more facets about it day by day.”

In her recent Instagram post, she talked about how the supplements she suggested in her videos help with chronic fatigue syndrome and are supported by various studies. She was quick to point out though that “there are no specific published studies that actually demonstrate that they work in the case of the COVID-19 ‘recovered’ patients and asymptomatic individuals.” However, she said, “in her opinion, these supplements have multifaceted benefits and can do no harm but only speed the recovery of persistent tiredness, so do speak with your health practitioner to get started.”

She explained that the symptoms one may experience due to post COVID fatigue includes fatigue even after lots of rest, low memory, concentration difficulty and unexplained muscle and joint pain.

She further explains that chronic fatigue syndrome has similar pathology to chronic COVID19 syndrome, hence,  she suggests taking the following two vitamin supplements which are beneficial to help with chronic fatigue syndrome:

1. Omega 3 fatty acids (1000mg)

She recommends taking this supplement for about 1-2 months post recovery from COVID as it improves energy levels. Omega 3 fatty acids are known for helping with reducing the risk of heart diseases, raise the level of good cholesterol in the body and boost the immunity system.

2. Coenzyme Q10

As per Pooja Makhija, Coenzyme Q10 is found in foods such as whole grains, spinach, broccoli, fish, and meat and may also be consumed in the form of Ubiquinol 100mg for 1-2 months.

These supplements also help with managing heart conditions and reducing headaches, so get set for a full recovery and consult your doctor or nutritionist before starting these supplements.
