I started drinking milk on an empty stomach. Here’s why that was a bad idea

Everyone has their own morning routine and I decided to start my morning with a glass of milk. This is how that turned out for me.

I love trying new things. From eating a banana every day to doing 100 squats each day for a month, I’ve done it all. Honestly, it’s the perfect way to keep me aware of what actually works and what is just hokum.

This time, a friend of mine told me that she switched her morning warm water regime with a glass of milk. For her, it turned out to be a total winner. So, I thought, let me try it out as well.

I was of the view that milk is not only a drink but a complete meal packed with essential nutrients such as calcium, protein, vitamin A and D, carbohydrates, potassium, and magnesium. Nourishing my body first thing in the morning with these many nutrients will make it stronger. Sounded like a plan to me!

But, in one week, I had to call it quits. Want to know why? Well, I’ll elaborate.

This is why I’ll never, ever drink milk first thing in the morning
Well, I have found the answer to this in Ayurveda. Basically, everything depends on the composition of your body. If milk doesn’t suit you, especially if you are having it first thing in the morning, then it means your body is air dominant. Turns out, I’m one of them.

So, people like me get acidity by drinking a glass full of milk first thing in the morning. Plus, according to Ayurveda, the best time to have milk is in the night as it can induce sleep.

It made me feel sluggish all the time
Well, science says that milk is heavy to digest if you have it right in the morning as the digestion is slower at that point in time. Since it is a well-known sleep inducer, I would end up feeling like I’m out of energy.

Its heaviness also put a load on my tummy. At times, it gave me a stomach ache as well given that my digestive system had to work hard to digest it.

So, after experiencing all this, I thought that it is better to consume my glass of milk as an evening snack or before bedtime only because it has not at all worked for me as a morning elixir.
