Most of us have come across the term ‘diabetes’. For the uninitiated, it primarily refers to a metabolic disorder in which your body is unable to utilise or produce the hormone insulin that is critical to regularise blood sugar levels. Needless to say, it becomes extremely important for diabetics to avoid food that is likely to cause a sudden spike in their blood sugar levels.

We are already aware that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. For diabetics, it is even more imperative to never skip breakfast, and eat something that will provide them with wholesome nutrition without messing with their blood sugar levels. If eating unhealthy foods can shoot up sugar levels, skipping breakfast altogether can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, which isn’t healthy either. Hence, when it comes to breakfast, diabetics need to strike the right balance.

So without further ado, let’s learn about these five healthy foods that must be a part of a diabetic-friendly breakfast:

1. Oats

A great source of fibre, oats ensure that the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream is slow and steady. However, make sure you avoid the flavoured variety, as it might contain ingredients that could negatively impact your blood sugar levels. Instead, opt for the plain kind or rolled oats, and cook it with loads of vegetables for a healthy breakfast.

2. Boiled eggs

Boiled eggs are low on carbohydrates and high on proteins, and the best part is you don’t need any oil for this! They can provide your body with the right amount of nutrition and energy, without messing with your blood sugar levels. Sprinkle some salt and pepper to add flavour to the boiled eggs.

3. Nuts and seeds mix

A good nuts and seeds mix is rich in protein, and will keep you satiated for a longer period of time. What’s more, it’s also good for your heart health, given the healthy fats present in it. Hence, incorporating a nuts and seeds mix won’t impact your blood sugar levels, but will surely boost your overall health.
