You’ve probably heard a lot of people say that you shouldn’t eat nuts in the summer. However, my mother always gives me walnuts and almonds to eat throughout the year. She calls them a treasure trove of nutrients, and also suggests a special way of eating them. Let’s find out the proper way to consume dry fruits during the summer season.

Dry fruits and summer season

Dry fruits generate a lot of heat in the body, so they should be avoided during the summer. They are eaten to keep the body warm in the winter, but they can increase your body’s heat in the summer. That’s why people avoid eating them because they can cause acne and rashes.

Rich in good fat, protein, magnesium, iron, vitamin B, and fibre, these nutrients prove to be very beneficial for the body. But still, you must have heard of people consuming almonds, cashews, dates, pistachios, and walnuts with caution. So after all, what is the reason behind this? Let’s find out.

People with a pitta tendency should not eat dry fruits in summer

According to Ayurveda, there are three types of doshas in our body – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. All these three doshas must be balanced for a healthy body. People who are pitta type may have a slightly higher body temperature and warm hands and feet.

In the book The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies, Vasant Lad explains that “walnuts and almonds aggravate pitta dosha in the body.”

So, does this mean that we should not eat nuts at all in the summer?

Since dry fruits are naturally hot, we should consume them in moderation. However, this does not mean we should stop eating them, as they contain a variety of essential nutrients. They’re high in protein and healthy fat. According to the Nutrition Journal, five soaked almonds or four to five cashews per day are recommended. You should also consume them in moderation.

Here is the right way to eat dry fruits in summer:

1. Walnuts in summer

Walnuts contain high levels of iron, calcium, copper, and omega-3 fatty acids. In the summer, they should only be eaten after being soaked overnight.

2. Figs in summer

It is thought that figs can only be eaten in the winter because their effect is extremely hot. In the summer, you can consume two figs a day, which contain all of the essential nutrients.

3. Almonds in summer

To avoid body heat during the summer, soak dry fruits overnight. Eating almonds without first soaking them can cause heat in the body, which can lead to other conditions such as pimples and piles. So, soak them in the summer, and 4-5 almonds will be enough for the entire day.

4. Raisins in summer

Raisins are extremely healthy for you. It can, however, cause heat in the body. As a result, in the summer, always consume soaked raisins overnight.
