Are spices helpful in weight loss?

Spices may improve your health in amazing ways! They can significantly contribute to maintaining the health of your intestines and can enhance your metabolism to help you lose weight. In fact, in addition to being used in cooking, spices are also used in the medicinal, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and fragrance industries. It’s all because spices include powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that are great for the upkeep of one’s health.

Health Shots reached out to Divya Gopal, Consultant – Dietitian/Nutritionist, Motherhood Hospital, Banashankari, Bengaluru, to know if drinking spiced teas can actually help in burning fat or not.

Gopal says, “It is a well-known fact that some tea recipes help in losing belly fat and weight loss. But if you are struggling with heavy weight, adding spices to tea can help you a lot.”

Here are some of the tea recipes that will help you with weight loss:

1. Turmeric and mint tea

Add water, a pinch of turmeric, and a few mint leaves to the one and a half cups of water and bring it to a boil. After removing it from the heat, serve it warm with honey for sweetness. Mint leaves are high in fibre and extremely low in calories, and turmeric is strong in antiseptic and antibacterial characteristics that help prevent indigestion and inflammation. Together, these components can aid in belly fat reduction.

Add ginger, turmeric, and basil leaves to a pan with water and boil it for 10 minutes. Drink it hot. Gopal claims, “Ginger is a natural appetite suppressant, and it also helps in keeping your blood sugar levels stable.” Drink this tea daily to see better results.
