Don’t know how many times you must have heard your child saying that she or he is having a stomach ache. However, digestive problems such as bloating, cramping, diarrhoea, and constipation are quite common in children and are harmless in most cases. But seeing your child complaining about such problems can increase your worries. Don’t worry, we have a solution. There are some healthy drinks for kids which can help boost better digestion in kids, by keeping them hydrated as well this summer.

What’s responsible for digestive issues in kids?

Well, you know how challenging it is to feed your child, especially if the little one happens to be a fussy eater. Due to this, your child can lead to poor eating habits which can surely result in problems in the kid’s digestive system. As parents, you should be careful with your kid’s diet because unhealthy eating habits or eating disorders can also cause problems like childhood obesity.

Apart from this, summer is also one of the major causes of the digestive issue in kids

When Health Shots got in touch with Avni Kaul, a nutritionist and wellness coach, she said, “These are summer times but irrespective of the weather, kids love to play outside. But peak summer can bring numerous gut-related disorders in kids. So, it is paramount to look after your kid’s gut health, particularly during the scorching summertime.”

Since the body’s water is lost in several ways during summer, it is essential to replenish the body with adequate fluid intake amongst the kids. There are some nutritional and healthy drinks that could keep your kid’s gut health in optimum order besides keeping them hydrated.

Here are 5 drinks that can boost better digestion in kids, according to Kaul:

1. Coconut water

Isn’t coconut water everyone’s favourite drink to beat scorching summer? Well, it’s because it can keep you cool and hydrated. Kaul says, “Coconut water, also called nariyal paani, is rich in nutrients. It is a good source of chlorides, electrolytes, magnesium, and potassium and contains a moderate amount of sugar, sodium, and protein. This is the best drink to replenish your kid’s health.” Coconut water is also a gut-friendly drink because it helps in rapid digestion and prevents bloating. Daily consumption of it will keep your kid’s digestive system in top shape.

2. Sweet lassi

Surely, juices, nimbu paani, and colas are your go to summer drinks but how can you forget about lassi ka glass!

Because curd is the hero of lassi, it is safe for your kids as it is a milk product. Besides being a good source of vitamins and nutrients, lassi is also excellent for gut health because it contains lactobacillus, which helps to lubricate the intestines and makes the digestive tract smooth to function. It is also a good source of probiotics.

3. Nimbu paani

Dehydration, tiredness, heat stroke, and tummy troubles are common in summer. The one-stop solution for these problems is none other than nimbu paani or lemon water.

“It is especially helpful when a kid suffers from dehydration due to vomiting or loose motion. Nimbu paani or lime water is also an energizing drink. It provides instant energy during extreme summer days. The lime has potassium and keeps blood pressure under check, and lowers the impact of nausea and dizziness,” says Kaul. Drinking it will provide relief from bloating and diarrhoea.

4. Banana shake

High temperatures in summer can slow down the process of a kid’s digestive system but a banana shake can help! This inexpensive superfood is packed with tons of nutrients and has a lot to offer. So if your child is constipated or has diarrhoea give them a glass of banana shake.

Kaul says, “Bananas, being fibrous, are good for the digestive system, and they provide energy to the kid’s active body”. Thus, giving them a glass of banana shake provides them with a double benefit that keeps their gut healthy and keeps them energized during the summer days.

5. Mango juice

If this is summer, no one can skip on mangoes. Mangoes are loved by all, especially by kids. Literally, no one can refuse to eat a mango. And mango juice is even more delicious. Especially the homemade mango juice. Mango provides dietary fiber and amylase compounds, which help one to avoid constipation. Also, they increase short-chain fatty acids in the body which showcases an improvement in intestinal microbial composition. Ensure to give mango juice in moderation to children.
