Puberty can be a trying time for most women—after all, hormones start getting haywire, and you end up with massive mood swings and big zits. You might think of it as harmless, but ladies, imbalanced hormones can wreak havoc on your fertility, and much more. So, how do we get them back on track? We nourish our body with a nutritious diet.

If your hormones go astray during periods and pregnancy, that’s normal. But if they overstay their welcome, then it’s time to act! And who else to learn from other than Bollywood actress Rakul Preet Singh, who has been dealing with hormonal issues for quite some time? She recently posted about seed cycling on her Instagram page, and it seems worth a try!

So, what is seed cycling?
As the name suggests, seed cycling involves eating four different seeds: pumpkin, flax, sesame, and sunflower, in accordance with your menstrual cycle, to help promote a healthy balance between estrogen and progesterone.

A combination of pumpkin and flax seeds is consumed during the follicular phase (day 1 to 14 of your menstrual cycle), while a mixture of sunflower and sesame seeds must be had during the luteal phase ( day 14 to 28 of your menstrual cycle).

How does seed cycling help?
Seeds are nutrient-dense, and consuming them regularly can prove to be beneficial for your health. With seed cycling, your hormones will be more happy and healthy, which means you can expect regular periods!

Here’s how each combination helps:

Flax seeds and pumpkin seeds: It helps to boost the production of estrogen.

Sunflower seeds and sesame seeds: This combo balances the level of progesterone in the body via enterodiol–a compound that interferes with estrogen metabolism.

Theoretically, seed cycling complements the natural hormonal changes during your cycle by either enhancing or inhibiting the production of estrogen and progesterone, depending upon the need. This helps with hormonal balance in your body!

Try this out for a few months and you are sure to receive benefits! But remember to speak to your doctor, in case you have serious issues with your periods.
