You must have heard of the term ‘catwalk’, and let’s just say we’ve all tried doing it at some point or the other in our lives. But if you don’t have a well-toned body, you might not be able to do justice to that sexy walk. So, our advice to you is to skip the catwalk and do the duck walk instead! Yes, you heard it right. It will not just shape your belly but will also give you a toned lower body!

Basically, a duck walk works on your lower abdomen, quads, glutes, and calves. Other than these, there are many minor muscles that get engaged knowingly or unknowingly.

But this only happens when you do a duck walk right:

This is how you do a duck walk without getting injured
  • Firstly, stand with your feet hip-width apart.
  • Now push your butt back, bend your knees (where you can balance your body weight), and lower your hips, so your thighs are parallel to the floor.
  • Ensure that you keep your chest up and extend your arms in front of you for balance.
  • Now maintain a squat position. Stay as low as you can comfortably. Now, step forward with the left foot, then the right foot.

(Tip: Be sure to keep the weight in your heels, as you walk.)
  • Continue to move forward in this manner for a specified number of steps, then reverse the movement.

If you want, you can also reverse the movement (like moving backwards). This will be one rep. Do at least 10 reps or do one rep for a minute to keep a count.

Here are the six key benefits of doing a duck walk
1. Helps with a flat belly

A duck walk is a full-body workout. It is a low-impact exercise, but its intensity is really high. This move focuses a lot on the lower belly, because it contracts the muscles that help in making the belly muscles tighter and more toned.

2. Boosts stamina

For great stamina, you need to have strong leg muscles and duck walking will help you get that too! Another thing is that when you do a duck walk, your heart rate increases drastically, which then raises the oxygen supply in your body, and keeps you energised.

3. Tone thighs

If you go through the steps carefully, you will see that you are holding the squat position, and then moving ahead, using your lower leg. This motion makes your thighs work very hard.

Also, watch:

4. Sculpts calves

Without a doubt, a duck walk helps to tone your calves and strengthens your ankles. That means no more cramps, varicose veins, or sprains.

5. Improves flexibility

Stiff muscles can cause some real trouble. On top of it, if you do high-impact exercises, then it’s going to make things worse for you. To tackle the problem, there is nothing better than doing a duck walk. The lower body is the area where you feel the maximum muscle tension, and this move is all about bringing movement back to the lower region. So, make sure the duck walk is a part of your fitness routine.

6. Duck walk is a great kegel exercise

Kegel exercises focus on your pelvic floor muscles, and so does the duck walk. That’s why according to experts, if you are pregnant or otherwise want to have tighter pelvic muscles, then you can definitely try doing a duck walk.

Not just us but Bollywood celebs like Katrina Kaif and trainers like Yasmin Karachiwala are big fans of duck walk. In fact, in one of her Insta posts, Katrina was seen slaying this move.

Now, you see why we also want you to try this move. So ladies, get ready to burn all that fat!
