Trust these 5 exercises to keep your blood sugar level under control

With the rises cases of diabetes all around the world, it is important for us to understand that a lot of it can be controlled by making significant lifestyle changes. Diabetes cannot be cured, but it can very certainly be managed. And in order to do that the best way to go about it is exercising.

Working out uses the increased sugar for energy, which can bring your increased blood sugar level back to control. So, we spoke to Mumbai-based fitness influencer Subhadeep Ray Choudhury to understand what kind of exercises work the best for managing blood sugar levels in diabetics and here’s what he suggests:

1. Walking
Those diagnosed with type 2 diabetes are suggested to go for regular walks. It is the best form of workout for literally anybody and all it requires is a good pair of shoes. This cardio workout is a must if you have high blood sugar levels.

2. Yoga
Known to curb stress levels and reduce body fat, yoga has many benefits. It helps fight insulin resistance and also enhances nerve function. “Remember when your stress levels go higher, it also raises your blood sugar level. And so yoga is your go to work out to combat that,” says Choudhury.

3. Swimming
Want to work out but it’s too much pressure on your joints? Swimming is the answer to that. Not only is it the most relaxing form of exercising, it doesn’t take a toll on your feet and joints. At the same time, you burn a good amount of fat and it is safe to say that swimming gives you the best of both worlds.

4. Dancing
Choudhury suggests that if you are low on motivation and are looking for something fun to do in order to keep your blood sugar levels in control, dance away! It is a great form of workout for diabetics and is proven to bring down your stress levels and that is very important to keep your blood sugar levels in check.

5. Bicycling
“Go cycling every day and you will never age. Doesn’t matter if you are cycling out in the open or doing it on a stationary bike. If you want to keep your blood sugar levels in control, ride a bike,” says Choudhury. It will improve your blood flow, burn calories, and keep you fit.
