Here’s why Shilpa Shetty swears by Tratak meditation to reduce stress

Modern life is characterised by busy schedules. This means that we often end up neglecting the fact that we must allow our body to rest in order to prepare it for the next day. But, it is extremely important to make time for relaxation in order to keep ourselves healthy. In order to calm down our body and mind, there is nothing better than yoga and meditation! Bollywood beauty Shilpa Shetty swears by it too.

Recently, she took Instagram to share a video in which she suggests practising an ancient meditation practice called Tratak. Tratak means ‘gaze’. It is believed that when we fix our gaze on a particular object, without moving our body, the mind becomes stable. This is the underlying principle of Tratak meditation which is known to combat negative thinking and improve the functionality of the brain. 

The caption of Shilpa’s Instagram post is:

We may not always have the power to change what’s happening around us, but we can definitely control what happens within. That is possible only through Yoga. Give yourself the ability to calm the mind, reduce unwanted thoughts, centre your wandering attention, and improve your focus through Tratak Meditation”.

In the video, Shilpa also shared the benefits of practising the Tratak meditation technique:

1. Increase concentration level

Many activities require a high level of concentration, but due to daily stress and mental health problems, many people suffer from low concentration levels. Tratak is a meditation method that is used to strengthen the ability to concentrate.

2. Fight sleeping difficulties

Insomnia or sleeplessness is a common disorder associated with morbidity and poor quality of life. Tratak is one of the six cleansing techniques of yoga. Those who have sleeping difficulties should practise Tratak meditation daily to improve their sleeping pattern. It also helps in keeping insomnia at bay.

Tratak is said to help prevent, treat and even cure various eye diseases. The Tratak Kriya strengthens eye muscles and improves vision.

Practising Tratak meditation produces a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. During meditation, you focus your attention on a single object and eliminate the stream of jumbled thoughts that may be crowding your mind. This process may result in enhanced physical and emotional well-being.
