We’ve seen Malaika Arora do all kinds of yoga poses. She’s in her 40s but can give even the younger lot a run for their money! The sexy lass can manage to pull off even the most difficult yoga poses, be it aerial sequences or anything that requires flexing of muscles on the mat.

But has it ever crossed your mind as to how she’s been able to do everything with such finesse? Well, in her yoga pose of the week, she has revealed her secret.

In her latest Insta post, Ms Arora is seen doing a yoga pose that is the mantra for her agility — ardha matsyendrasana aka half lord of the fish pose.  According to this diva, here’s why this pose is a must, if you are dealing with a stiff body.

“This week’s pose is ardha matsyendrasana (half lord of the fish pose). This yoga pose is a great hip opener. It flexes the lower part of the body, making the hip stronger and toned. The neck, shoulders, arms, and chest is well-opened and brings great flexibility too. This also helps in improving the digestive system and the functioning of the liver and the pancreas.”

Who would have thought that one yoga pose has these many benefits? Read on to know more.

Here’s how you can ace this yoga pose

1. Firstly, sit in a state of dandasana with your legs straight, place your hands on the ground on the side of your hips and keep your spine straight.
2. Now, bend your left leg gently, such that your left heel touches the right hip.
3. Cross your right leg over your left leg in such a way that your right leg ends next to your left knee.
4. Place your left elbow to the outside of your right knee.
5. Take your right hand on your lower back. Now twist your upper body to the right side and hold your left hand with your right hand, or interlock.
6. Keeping your chin towards the right shoulder, hold the posture for 10 to 15 seconds and release. Repeat the same with the other leg.

We know it’s not that simple, that’s why you need to be very careful while practicing it at home.

Here’s why you should definitely give it a shot

Not just winter but otherwise too, an inactive body can become stiff with time. This stiffness results in joint aches, spasms, and muscle wear and tear. Also, when you start exercising after a long haul, muscle stiffness and soreness gives you a hard time.

But to deal with all of this, you just need to put some trust in yoga. Before trying other complex yoga poses, we would recommend you to practice this yoga pose for at least 15 to 20 days, so that all your muscles can relax and open up.

Keep an idea of your risk of weight-related issues.

Check BMI

This way, there will be no muscle injury and you will be able to perform better when you hit the gym. Also, this pose is a fabulous way to relax your muscles post-workout.

Thank you Malaika for enlightening all of us with this inspiring yoga asana.
