We’ve all wondered how Malaika Arora manages to stay in shape. The Chhaiya Chhaiya girl is timeless! She entered the scene in the 90s and since then, we’ve all grown up but she still looks the same. For the longest time, we’ve wanted to know her secret and thanks to following the diva diligently on social media, we finally know that it’s her yoga practice that keeps her fit.

All throughout 2020, she motivated us to take up yoga by regularly posting the moves she swears by! She has continued this trend in 2021 as well and recently posted her #MalaikasMoveOfTheWeek. She said, “Let’s kickstart our Workout and Yoga routine for a new year and a new week with a shimmer of sweat and an unwavering commitment (sic).”

Malaika can be seen doing the utthita hasta padangusthasana which is also known as the extended hand to big toe pose. Through this post, her fans discovered that she also does aqua yoga because she’s performing the asana in a pool! It isn’t surprising that the beauty would try it out because doing yoga in water is known to reduce stress levels and benefit the muscles.

Now, the asana is definitely slightly difficult and requires practice but the benefits it has far outweigh the effort it requires. Speaking about the advantages of the utthita hasta padangusthasana, Malaika wrote that: “This pose strengthens and stretches the legs and ankles. It challenges and improves your sense of balance, enhancing your focus and concentration.”

This is how you can do the asana like Malaika

The Bollywood beauty included how to perform this asana in the caption:

  1. Stand-up straight with legs together.
  2. Bring your left knee towards your belly.
  3. Hold the big toe of the left leg with the left hand.
  4. Inhale, extend your leg to the side shoulder level.
  5. Maintain the balance on the right leg.
  6. Lift your right hand up. Keep both your knees straight and look forward.
  7. Hold for 10 to 15 seconds and release.
