Humanity has reached that stage where it needs to take the science of existence more into consideration than the routine. More than a decade of this generation has passed overlooking the relevance of conscious living. Considering the onset of Covid-19, it is high time that you focus on your immunity and health over anything else. The popular saying ‘Jaan hai to Jahan Hai’ (If you have life, you have the world) makes much sense now.

Life can only be experienced wholly if one is healthy. An unhealthy lifestyle only causes stress and discomfort in your day-to-day activities. However, yogic science consists of formulas laid out for a fulfilling and unimpaired life. Following yogic practices efficiently leads to the strengthening of the internal system in the body. This, in turn, makes your body capable of fighting any virus that comes in its contact.

Rajesh Singh Maan, a spiritual yoga guru, and sacred sciences teacher, spoke to HealthShots regarding the impact of yoga on your health and how it can keep us protected against Covid-19.

“Viruses like Covid-19 and its latest variant Omicron have been a grave threat to people with a weak immune system. To restore your immunity or to strengthen it, you must inculcate yogic practices in your daily life. These practices will not only restore your health, but will also channelize a conscious flow of energy within you. This will help you in maintaining the quality of your life”, says Maan, popularly known as Acharya Advait Yogbhushan.

Yoga tips to fight Covid-19:

1. Wipe out toxins with internal cleansing

If you are living in a metropolitan city, it is irrational to believe that your body is free from toxins. Even the air you breathe consists of pollutants. These can enter the body with your breath and get accumulated in the nasal passage. This can eventually block the oxygen to reach the lungs. Following ‘Shatkarma kriya’ like jal neti and sutra neti are great to remove toxins from the nasal passage.
A sustained practice of these kriyas will ensure proper flow of oxygen through esophagus to the lungs. It will also help you avoid conditions like sinus or allergic rhinitis. These practices must be initiated under proper guidance to avoid any mishaps.

2. Yoga asana practice

The strength of immunity is assessed by T-Cells present in the thymus gland, which resides in the chest in between the lungs. Yoga practices like chest opening asanas that stimulate the intercostal muscles are great for the thymus gland. Asanas like tadasana, Ardha Chandrasana, uttanasana and setu bandhasana must be included in your daily physical exercise routine.

3. Breathing practices

Yoga practices are effective only with the conscious practice of breath. The flow of prana is channelized in the body with the help of breathing practices in Yoga. A majority of the oxygen in your body is used by the brain. It is imperative for the good functioning of the nervous system. Guided breathing practices along with yoga will help regulate the proper flow of prana throughout the body. This is proven to combat conditions like irregular blood pressure, stress, anxiety etc.

Follow these yoga tips along with practicing yoga everyday. Yoga is the secret to staying healthy and avoiding any viral infections from harming your body.
